Volunteer Work Group

Since the Co-operative launched the volunteer initiative last September, a hardcore of volunteers have turned up each week making a positive contribution to the club. With the season about to start, there is much to be done and we welcome any additions to the team. Although the main weekly session is Tuesday’s from 9.30am until 1.00pm, some volunteers are on site on other weekdays, so we are able to accommodate any offers of help. Additional funding from the 200 Club (see article on page 6) has enabled us to purchase paint and materials to keep volunteers fully occupied. We are also mindful of improving facilities for supporters and have recently placed an order for 2 hand dryers for the bar toilets to overcome present issues. The Community Allotment has proved to be a labour of love for volunteers Ray Potter and Mike Turner who have almost restored the allotment to its former glory. ‘Gardening and volunteering:The new wonder drugs ? – Not our spin but the comments of a BBC Health Journalist.
